Having been shown all the way back in September, the facelifted Chery Omoda 5 has finally been revealed in full – and just like with the release of the first image, the car has been launched in Russia first, where the car is sold under the standalone Omoda brand as the C5.

As we’ve seen before, the revisions bring the design closer to the electric Omoda E5. The petrol model now shares that car’s sleeker arrow-shaped LED daytime running light “eyebrows”, joined together by a black bar with Omoda badging.

Below this, the bumper has been significantly re-profiled, forming an X shape together with the revised grille – the latter ditching the current chrome-studded design for body-coloured squares, just like its larger sibling, the Omoda C9. The internals for the dual-projector headlights are also now fully black.

There’s also a new design for the black 18-inch wheels, along with the ditching of the original model’s divisive red highlights on the bumpers, door mirrors, rocker panels, tailgate spoiler and wheels – these have now been refinished in black. Other than that, the facelifted model looks identical to the car it replaced – the changes shown in the sole reveal photo were pretty much the extent of them.

That means you still get the same full-width taillights with vertical light bars, along with the same fake dual tailpipes. Even the interior with its full-width air vent design, widescreen display panel with twin 10.25-inch screens, touch-based air-con controls, stubby gear selector and bucket-style seats with integrated headrests has been carried over wholesale from the original.

Even the engine options are the same – a 147 PS/230 Nm 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a CVT, as well as the Tiggo 7 Pro’s 197 PS/290 Nm 1.6 litre mill and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The latter comes as part of the hotter GT variant, which is not available in Malaysia.

With the Omoda 5 now nearing two years old here, expect the facelift to arrive over the coming months, joining the Tiggo 4 Pro/Tiggo Cross that has already been spotted on our roads. One question is whether the updated model will sold under the Omoda & Jaecoo banner as is already the case in other markets, joining the Omoda C9 currently offered through Jaecoo Malaysia.
