Highway operator PLUS Malaysia has announced that it will be activating the Smartlane on sections of its highway over the coming Christmas festive season as well as for the end-of-year holiday. This will be activated at 25 locations from today, December 20 until January 2, 2025.
PLUS Malaysia is preparing for the increase in traffic volume to 2.12 million vehicles a day for the Christmas and year-end holiday season on these dates, compared to 1.85 million vehicles daily on regular days, it said in a statement.
As with prior Smartlane activations, a signboard to indicate an upcoming Smartlane will be posted 1 km before the Smartlane, followed by another at 500 m before the location. Within each Smartlane zone, there will be reminder signboards every 500 m, and a signboard to indicate the end of the Smartlane.
PLUS Malaysia has also installed flashing green lights on Smartlane signboards to indicate their activation. Meanwhile, the highway operator has allocated 1,500 staff to assist with toll plaza operations, more than 1,500 operational toll lanes, more than 500 PLUSRonda and LPT2Ronda patrol staff, as well as to open all public toilets, suraus and R&R petrol stations which are operational 24 hours daily.
The following is the list of locations in Peninsular Malaysia where the Smartlane will be activated nationwide:
