The Selangor road transport department (JPJ) has issued 3,855 summonses to motorcyclists in the first 12 days since the launch of Ops Khas Motosikal on November 1, reported New Straits Times.
Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan said 325 enforcement personnel have been deployed for the operation at accident hotspots across the state, and so far 19,362 motorcyclists have been checked.
Of the 3,855 summons notices issued to errant motorcyclists, 1,644 summonses were for technical offences including illegal modifications, lack of side mirrors and defective lights, 983 summonses were issued for not having valid road tax, while 737 summonses were issued for not having a valid license.
“302 summons notices were also issued for license plate offences while 34 summons notices were issued for the seven main traffic offences,” Azrin said.
The seven offences are queue cutting, overtaking on a double line, running the red light at the traffic light, going over the speed limit, using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt or helmet, and abusing the emergency lane.
The department’s operation on Tuesday night saw 631 motorcyclists checked, with 259 summonses issued. From these, 19 motorcycles were ordered to be inspected, while five motorcycles were seized. Selangor JPJ will be setting up seven to eight roadblocks daily in all districts within the state, Azrin said.
