Toyota is planning a battery-electric successor to the Yaris, although it is not in the manufacturer’s immediate plans, Autocar has reported.
“This is the idea, but now it is not something we talk about. We have deliberately decided to start [our electric car sales] in the fastest-growing segments. The right moment will arrive, but not right now,” said Toyota Europe head of product and marketing Andrea Carlucci.
The Japanese brand currently has the C-HR+, bZ4X and the Urban Cruiser forming the line-up of EVs currently on sale in Europe, with the first two of these just revealed this week.

When the battery-electric successor to the current Yaris emerges, it will likely bear the Yaris name as future Toyota EVs will take on “familiar names from current cars,” such as with the C-HR+, Carlucci told Autocar.
The current-generation Yaris made its debut in October 2019, and emerged as the first compact model from the manufacturer to use the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) for a compact model application, dubbed GA-B for compact models like the European-market Yaris.
In addition to just-revealed EVs, Toyota has also confirmed three more battery-electric models, including a pick-up truck. Toyota has confirmed its intent to produce the Hilux BEV in Thailand, and this would most likely emerge as part of the ninth-generation Hilux range, given that the current-generation model is approaching the end of its lifecycle.
