The road transport department (JPJ) has announced that it has added another avenue for road tax (LKM) renewal for private motorcars, with motorists now being able to renew their vehicle road tax (individual or company) at Puspakom centres as of today, September 1.
Prior to this, road tax renewal at Puspakom only involved that for decontrolled vehicles (goods vehicles of 7,500 kg and below). The department said the initiative will be implemented in stages at all 39 Puspakom inspection centres in the Peninsular. It added that road tax renewals will be expanded to cover those for motorcycles and e-hailing vehicles from November.
The department said that all transactions for road tax renewals at Puspakom will only be by appointment, and customers can make an online booking for a slot here. No walk-ins will be allowed. Take note that the method of payment for road tax renewal at Puspakom counters presently is only by cash.
Earlier this week, JPJ said that there was sufficient supply of driving licences and road tax at JPJ, Pos Malaysia and MyEG outlets nationwide, and revealed that as of August 27, the supply of road tax discs amounted to 399,975 at state JPJ outlets, 342,018 at Pos Malaysia outlets, 171,343 with MyEG and 24,982 with Puspakom.
Last month, the department reiterated that renewal period for both road tax and driving licences will not be extended beyond September 30.
