Geely has re-entered the Indonesian market with the EX5 electric SUV, which is the twin to the Proton eMas 7, which was launched in Malaysia in December 2024. The electric SUV has arrived in Thailand also as the Geely EX5, in two versions starting from 859,000 baht (RM111,100). For comparison, the Proton eMas 7 was priced from RM106k at launch.
According to Indonesian news outlet Liputan 6, the EX5 brings two variants to the Indonesian market – the EX5 Max and the EX5 Pro. Pricing for the republic has yet to be announced at launch, and will be revealed at the 2025 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS 2025).
The Geely EX5 for Indonesia will be made at the PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) in Bekasi, West Jawa, and production will begin in the second quarter of this year, Geely Auto vice president Evin Ye said in the launch presentation presentation. As part of the brand’s re-entry into the market, Geely will be opening a sales and servicing network of 100 dealers within three years.
This timeline of Indonesian assembly of the EX5 for the market means the Geely-branded model will likely roll out from the Bekasi, West Jawa plant before local assembly (CKD) of the Proton eMas 7 begins, as CKD plans for the national brand’s EV have yet to be announced; the eMas 7 is fully imported (CBU) from China.
The Flyme Auto OS-powered infotainment for the Indonesian-market Geely EX5 that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the manufacturer’s voice command function that supports Bahasa Indonesia inputs. For driver assistance, ADAS features in the Indonesian-market Geely EX5 includes AEB, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
Being the global version of the Galaxy E5, which is the twin to the Proton eMas 7, the EX5 gets identical powertrain which is a single, front-mounted drive motor producing 218 PS and 320 Nm, propelling the SUV from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
The Geely EX5 gets the Aegis short-blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery in two sizes; a 49.52 kWh battery provides up to 345 km of range, while a 60.22 kWh battery enables the vehicle to travel up to 410 km on a single charge, and this can extend to 430 km when specified with 18-inch wheels instead of the 19-inch units; range figures for both are based on the WLTP testing standard.
