Nio officially announced on December 13 this year that 60 million battery swaps have been performed at its power swap stations. At present, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker has 2,785 battery swap stations in China, including 909 along highways.
Previously, the company said it operated over 2,500 stations globally, 98% of which are located in China. In Europe, the figure was 51 stations at the time, but this has since increased to 59 locations, with the latest being in Edegem, Belgium.
According to CarNewsChina, the swap stations averaged nearly 80,000 swaps per day since the beginning of December, which would mean a car undergoes a battery swap at a station every 1.08 seconds.
The previous milestone was 50 million swaps which was achieved in August, so it took close to five months for an additional 10 million swaps. The first 10 million swaps were reached in four years on July 2, 2022 after the first battery swap took place in Shenzhen on May 20, 2018.
In May this year, Nio launched its second brand called Onvo, with the first model introduced being the L60. This has helped increase the number of battery swaps performed, even though not all Nio power swap stations are compatible with Onvo vehicles – the company plans to add more compatible stations over the coming months.
