Surfacing after the release of official images depicting the next-generation Ford Ranger pick-up truck, the Blue Oval has released footage of the forthcoming model in this Thai-market video.
There’s less material disguise on the upcoming fourth-generation Ranger in the footage here, though being a teaser, its details are still obscured; what can be seen as before are its new, larger headlamp arrangement similar to those on the Maverick, and when joined by a much more upright grille, offers more than a passing resemblance to its larger relative, the F-150.
Exact details of new equipment over that offered over the current model are still under wraps, though we already know that a plug-in hybrid powertrain will feature in the new Ranger’s line-up, and that of the Everest SUV as well.
This will be in addition to petrol and diesel engines, and this will reportedly offer 367 PS and 680 Nm of torque from a 2.3 litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor. Claimed fuel consumption from this petrol hybrid unit is 3.0 litres per 100 km.
Purely internal combustion options will include the existing choice of 2.0 litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel, and this will be joined by a new 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 turbodiesel. The petrol unit is expected to be the 314 PS/542 Nm 2.7 litre turbocharged V6 that features in the Bronco. All powertrain options will reportedly use a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Also likely to be included in the fourth-generation Ranger is the latest iteration of the SYNC 4 infotainment system, with larger touchscreen interfaces measuring up to 15.5 inches across as seen in the Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning. For the driver, there could be an optional 12-inch digital instrument display.
An exact launch date has yet to be revealed, though the Blue Oval says the pick-up truck’s premiere will take place soon. What are your favourite aspects of the next-generation Ford Ranger so far?
